Where each option fits
Server to ToR inside the same rack: short runs — DAC cables may be cheaper; optics are preferred beyond ~5 m or when the NIC and switch vendors differ.
ToR to aggregation: 25G SR across rows if multimode cabling exists; otherwise single-mode 25G LR or 100G QSFP28 uplinks (see our 100G QSFP28 category).
Mixed vendor racks: Dell or HPE servers' NICs and switches are often different responsibility domains — selectively coded modules per end may be needed, so order each coded end separately and label the install positions.
Dell vs HPE platform notes
Dell: on PowerSwitch platforms such as S5248F-ON running OS10, coding verification is done against the switch model and OS10 firmware version; behavior with third-party optics varies by platform and release, so we confirm before bulk orders.
HPE / Aruba: third-party transceiver policy differs by platform; some models require a configuration step to accept non-HPE optics. Share the exact platform and configuration policy with us and we flag what to verify before your order.

Can SFP28 run at 10G?
Many SFP28 ports and modules support 10G, but not all module/port combinations do — it depends on the module variant and the switch port. Confirm with us per SKU; for mixed 10G/25G racks we typically quote dedicated 10G SFP+ modules for the legacy ports instead of downgraded 25G units.
